💃🏽 The Way of Ecstasy 🕺🏽

My favourite spiritual teacher once said that the fastest and most delightful way to God, to Enlightenment, to Healing, to your True Self is The Way of Ecstasy. Because in Ecstatic Trance the ego disappears and we reunite with the natural flow of Life. We no longer dance to the music. We become the music. No separation. Just Union.

In The Way of Ecstasy we create a space in which just that can happen: the dissolution of the dualistic boundaries created by thought between ourselves and others - and even between ourselves and ourselves. Then Magically, we can find ourselves connecting and entangling in the most beautiful way.

Our Guidelines

We have 4 basic guidelines to make your experience as good as possible, these are:

  1. We dance barefeet or on socks. Because:

    • This helps freeing us from social norms and expectations, enabling us to feel more comfortable, contributing to a deeper sense of personal expression and authenticity.

    • We are also more free in our movements without shoes on and it won’t hurt stepping on each other’s feet.

    • Our feet are energetic centers as well, enabling us to release energy to the earth.

    • Finally, the idea of an ecstatic dance is to become fully embodied, bare feet help facilitate this full sensory experience.

2. We Respect each others’ Space.

An ecstatic dance is an enthralling event. So much so that we may be pulled by someone’s energy, authentic expression, or looks. This is a beautiful part of ecstatic dance but it also needs to come with respect for each others space. One of the main goals of ecstatic dance is to create maximal intimacy. This can only happen where there is also maximal respect. A sketch of how you can approach someone respectfully:

  1. First get into a state of self-amusement. Be sure you’re having fun on your own and you can offer value to the other.

  2. Send your loving energy and attention to the other, do some fun dance moves, establish eye contact,

  3. Feel into the reactions of the other, “are they welcoming this?”

  4. If so, you can double down and approach, but always stay in tune with the energy of the other, this is the real dance.

  5. One or the other can fold their hands in a namasté 🙏🏽 before their hearts as a sign they thank you for your energy but feel they need to continue their dance journey on their own.

3. We seek a Natural High.

At our ecstatic dance we try to keep our energies pure. This is good for everyone and also fosters intimacy since it is only wise to open one’s heart to pure energies.

We do, however, sometimes drink cacao to help open our hearts and connect to our souls. It is like coffee for your feminine energy and helps you be more sensitive, loving, and energized.

4. Silence is Golden

Whenever uncomfortable emotions arise, we like to escape into the mind and start thinking. Consequently, we often start talking to each other to get rid of the uncomfortability. However, in this way we lose touch with what we are actually feeling.

In our ecstatic dance, we want to learn you to stay with whatever arises, to move with it, to transform it. This skill can help you deeply in life to become less reactive, more authentic, and more courageous.
